El Perico is a 100 plus year old adobe home fully restored by artist Carol Putnam.
The home has two en suits, one with its own private patio with fountain.
The second en suite has a beehive fireplace , the bathroom is fully tiled with antique Talavara tile. There is a additional powder room for visitors.
Large living and dining areas with fireplace. Two antique doors with a surround of Talavara tile lead out onto the portal.
Kitchen has custom handmade Cedro wood cabinetry, with easy opening and soft closures. The counters and back splashes are antique Talavara tile.
Every effort was made to preserve the original tiles and light fixtures through out the home.
Ceilings are 16 high with exposed vegas.
Floors are tiled with original tile throughout.
All rooms open out onto the portal. The portal runs the entire length of the home completely private, surrounded by citrus, avocados, pistachios. and mango trees. The gardens have specimen cactus and succulents.
Ambient lighting creates an intimate atmosphere for dinner parties or quiet conversations. A custom fireplace provides a gathering place to sit relax or read a book. Marshmallow roasting is a nightly winter ritual for hot chocolate or smores.
The portal has a handmade mesquite wet bar with freezer and refrigerator.
A custom pizza oven is next to the portal for pizzas, bread making, roasting meats.
Ms. Putnam designed the pizza oven with a glass core for long term heat conduction which allows an extended cooking time for multiple items.
There is a separate powder room off the portal for guests. The swimming pool is adjacent to the portal and would make an excellent wave-resistance pool for exercise or therapy.
The house sits on approximately one half acre and is complete surrounded by adobe walls.
The main entry gates are iron and mesquite, customer designed and hand made. They electronically open and close. The entry is cobble stone with antique light fixtures.
There is a separate bodega for storage which has water and electricity and brick flooring.
The systems: Plumbing and electrical have been updated and include 220
The well was professionally cleaned and all pumps and plumbing were replaced, there are two large water holding tanks also with new pumps and plumbing. The hot water is on demand and is through out the house. The plumbing is American style.
The entire roof was completely redone with both a fiber mat and two applications of water repellent coating.
The front of the property as well as the driveway area have French drains installed and the water is channeled to the arroyo,
Sun shades have been installed for late afternoon sun and easily roll up or down for desired height.
The exterior of the home has been painstakingly restored and finished in an antique technique.
For this project I adhered to the principles of Wabi Sabi design. The stark Sonoran Architecture lends itself beautiful to this concept. I chose to accent and illustrate the beautiful craftsmanship of the albaņil which I had the extreme pleasure and good fortune to work alongside these very talented people.
As with all my projects it is my wish the house will bring nothing but happiness
